We are just up to Postseason Wrestling. At the Rutgers Athletica Centre on Saturday morning, Penn State wrestling began its pursuit of another Big Ten title and path to Minneapolis for this year’s NCCA Companionships. Nittany Lions went 8-4 in the session. Six wrestlers promoted to the semifinals. The contest commenced in an excited manner. No. 14 Brandon Meredith managed a strong competing impression. He edged No. 3 Pat Mckee of Minnesota 3-2 to jump in the quarterfinals. He just needs one more win to make the National Tournament. Meredith’s win was the Nittany Lion’s first at 125 lbs. Penn State was Idle until the 149-lb. No. 8 Jarod Verkleeren took on No. 9 Yahya Thomas od Northwestern. Jarod Verkleeren did not wrestle again in the Sessions because he had a bye in the consolation bracket. At 157 lbs., No. 13 Bo Pipher fought No. 13 Will Lewa. od Michigan and were tied 1-1 with about a minute to wrestle. Due to an illegal slam by Lewan, Pipher was rewarded a point. Now trailing 2-1, Lewan beat Pipher, but Pipher then force a sudden victory. On sudden victory, Lewan again cooldown Pipher to secure the decision — despite an officials review. Rasheed achieved a positive place in Big Ten Wrestling Championships. Penn State again had a bit of layover as its next three wrestlers all had first-round byes before No. 6 Shakur Rasheed took on No. 11 Matt Wroblewski of Illinois at 197 lbs.

Rasheed scored Penn State’s first bonus points this weekend. He pinned Wroblewski less than a minute into the bout. He looked as good as ever. After him, No. 7 Seth Nevills faced No. 10 Alex Esposito od Rutgers. Neville fell hard early in the bout and was inspected left knee injury. Well, he continued, but could not do match. Trailing 2-0 late in the Second period, his injury defaulted. When Meredith got his second bout of the day, the bracket flipped after the heavyweight bout. At 133 lbs., No. 2 Roman Bravo-Young Got his first action of the day against No. 7 Sammy Alvarez; who you might remember gave RBY one od the most exciting matches od the season back in January. Bravo-Young won 5-2 with more than Teo Minutes of riding time. On semifinals tonight, he will fight against No. Austin DeSanto of lowa. Big Ten Wrestling Championships getting interested.

In quarterfinals, No. 1 Nick Lee also Got his first bout of the day. He did not waste any time and pinned Fillus 37 seconds into the bout. He will face No. 4 Chad Red of Nebraska in the semifinals. Big Ten Wrestling Championships continues, after a bit of a layover, Penn State’s other three No. 1 seeds all got to work and kicked off their weekends with convincing wins. In the three-match period, the Nittany Lions outscored their competitors 47-9. At 165 lbs., Vincenzo Joseph rolled into the semifinals with ease, beating No. 9 Drew Hughes of Michigan State with a 16-5 major decision. No. 1 Mark Hall advances to semifinals.

The Nittany Lions’ quarterfinal closed when Rasheed faced No. 3 Jacob Warner of Iowa. Warner led 1-0 entering the third period, but an escape and takedown by Rasheed clinched him a spot in the semifinals. He will face No. 2, Eric Schultz of Nebraska, tonight. Shortly after Rasheed’s win, Pipher wrapped up the session for Penn State, losing 18-0 to Wisconsin’s Garrett Model and thus was dropped out of the tournament. People are anxiously waiting for the winners of Big Ten Wrestling Championships.
